Job Descriptions for current vacancies

An Apprentice. (Labourer/Kitchen Porter/Waiter(ess)/Cleaner)

As this position does not require specific skill-set, there are many of our less fortunate brothers, and sisters, ready, and eager, to compete for their place under the Sun, as it were. These positions are mostly filled on a first come first served basis, however, a candidate has to satisfy basic criteria at just above average level, in comparison to fellow applicants. Certain institutional establishments require their candidates to be functioning, but not ‘over-qualified’. In the real sector, skilled and determined apprentices, can naturally progress up the ladder purely based on merit. In most cases it boils down to the personality of the candidate, so I would suggest making a ‘selfie’ video introducing yourself briefly to a would be employer. Perhaps making a short and an extended versions, that could be posted on youtube, and, subsequently, a link sent with your resume has a better chance of getting you that interview. Have your supporting documents in order, and to hand, as no employer would want to hire a ‘criminal on the run’. If the position you are applying for requires you to provide something you do not understand, be sure to investigate to your best ability, the requirements and related topics, ask questions, and explain any inconsistencies. You will need to be reliable, honest, and hard-working, but also be aware of common sense.

Market/Street Trader

Where possible, this position can be attractive to a people’s person. It is definitely not for everyone, we cannot all be just trading, some need to produce, and some to consume. As an experience, it is helpful in understanding your community, and finding your place in it. Product knowledge is helpful, and an open personality is a must, for a successful candidate. Before you start, find as much as you can about the job, talk to other traders, make sure you have enough stock ready for a day, familiarize yourself with the till, and any details, and accessories. If the stock is to be brought to the site in the morning: organize the means of transport, and ensure delivery on time. In the morning, allow yourself sufficient time, so that you are not late, hangover, etc. Having change, and a credit card machine, is vital, to achieve maximum sales. Set up your stall in abundance, with samples to try the products, make sure that pricing is clear and readable on display. Light up your scene, as people like moths are attracted to light. Keep a close eye on your stock, and float, because if something goes missing, you will be the one responsible. First aid kit should be complete, and up to date. Keep your stall tidy and efficient. Although it helps to have punters queue, to get more sales, there should be no restriction to the flow ( you do not want them to wait too long, as they may walk away, or complain). At the end of trading: count, and, securely pack away your stock, deposit the takings, and get ready for the next day.

Manager(ess)

Being hungry for power, for it’s own sake, is not the same, as being a natural leader. Power trips, and psychotic behaviour, may progress you in the pyramidal structure, but in time, a younger, more ruthless psycho, will be breathing down your neck, and it is not the situation, for the healthy minded, balanced, individual to aspire to end up in. To be successful in managing long term it is critical to build trust, and respect, of subordinates, gradually and deservedly. Ruling simply by fear too often tends to stupidity the executive, and, a scared fool is a recipe for a disaster. There are many techniques, and teachings, available to help you understand the theory, and experience in a similar position may be advantageous. Grass-root talent, or dedication, but making sure that the job is done, and done well, is all that counts at the end. So you should not be afraid of the phone, or confrontation, and know not to panic in emergencies. The difference between the talent and success is: a lot of hard work, as they say, and between a squirrel and a rat is: Public Relations.

Sales(wo)man/Self-Employed

Some companies will offer a basic pay to their new recruits, but an experienced salesman would tell you, that, this is all that you will get. Indeed, it appears to be better than No sale=No Pay (Commission only) option, for some rookies. Only natural born hunters, and predators, truly excel in sales. The craft itself is not that hard, to master, as it is.
A well schooled student, an actor, or an army veteran, are among potential millionaires, once they learn that everything is sales, and, it is all about the numbers.
